How does it Work?

The project works by connecting local artists and merchants to collaborate on original murals that are painted on roll down security gates on the outside of these businesses. Over two years, the project has installed 100 gates in the Lower East Side. In 2017, we will take this formula to new New York City neighborhoods.

Project Background

The 100 GATES Project was born in the mind of local artist and pro skateboarder, Billy Rohan in 2014 and brought to life that next year by the Lower East Side Partnership (LESP), a not-for-profit economic development organization in New York's Lower East Side.

2017 Expansion

The 100 Gates Project will continue to beautify communities in 2017 and beyond, thanks to generous support from the New York City Department of Small Business Services's Neighborhood 360 grant opportunity. The 100 Gates Project will spend the next several months expanding into East Harlem, with our partner, New Harlem East Merchant Association, and in Staten Island with our partners, Staten Island Arts and Staten Island Chamber of Commerce
